"individualism" comes from Europe, but in different countries and differenthistorical periods, often have different meanings. American individualism isrepresentation in the school of western individualism, since the 20th centuryas Western capitalist ideology of the dominant ideology and core values.Individualism, as a kind of ideology and values, is the leading values of Americanlife, has already developed intothe core of American culture, in the developmentcourses of more than 300 years of American. Individualism is changed with Americansociety and politics, economic development and change; demonstrate differentcharacteristics in the different stages of history. Since World Warâ…¡, the growthmomentum of individualism was more obvious; its characteristic is also prominent,has had the certain degree influence to the social development and people'sattitude towards life and lifestyle.This thesis is made up of four parts.Chapter one is the formulation of American individualism. Divides into twoparts of introduction, a part is to explain the meaning of individualism; the secondpart has analyzed the origin of American individualism. Chapter two is the overviewof American individualism development after the World Warâ…¡. The developmentoverview is divided into three stages to introduce: Since after World Warâ…¡tothe end of 1960's, 1970s to the late 1980s, since the 1990s. The thesis has analyzedthe different stage society and politics, economic development and change impacton individualism values. Chapter three is a characteristic of the contemporary American individualism. The thesis has analyzed the new characteristic which thedifferent stage individualism change presently comes out. Chapter four is acontemporary impact on society of American individualism. The thesis has probedinto the impact on American society, economic development, people's life attitudeand life style of individualism.
