The Study Of "XianX XianY" And It's Related Form

In modern Chinese, a special form "xian X xian Y" indicates two successiveactions took place or one action is the aim of the other. Thus we collected manyexamples and conducted specific research on it.This paper defined the scope of "xian X xian Y"and it's related form. "xian"is atime adverb, modifies verbs X and Y. then a detailed description and analysis weremade on "xian X xian Y". It was clarified to fi'ee form and concise form. Also thispaper compared The difference of these two forms, studied the characters of X,Y andthe grammatical meaning between "xian X" and "xian V". Further more analysis weremade on "xian V", which was an implication form of "xian X xian Y". Through thecomparisons we found that "xian V" can be followed by a subject, instead "xian Xxian Y" can't; "xian X xian Y" is self-sufficient while "xianV" is not. These twoforms have different pragmatic, "xian X xian Y "conveys a certain kind of emotionwhile "xian V " has no such function. "xianV" and "xian X xian Y" are alsointerrelated.This paper discussed grammaticalization process of the time adverb "xian" aswell as the routinization of "xian X xian Y" and it's motivation.
