The English Patient by Canadian writer, Michel Ondaatje, is considered as a model of postcolonial literature. This thesis intends to explore the ambivalence of colonial others under the British western hegemony. The others of British culture, on the one hand, have the spontaneous consent on its values and on the other hand, resist and oppose the dominant culture; on the one hand, they suffer great trauma both in body and psyche and on the other hand, they attempt to heal themselves physically and mentally simultaneously. Colonial ambivalence is an intensely effective strategy to subvert and disintegrate the western cultural hegemony.
