| Euphemisms are not only a kind of linguistic phenomenon in daily life, but also a kind of social phenomenon in almost all societies. They are the embodiment of culture in language. As a kind of special linguistic phenomenon, Euphemisms coexist in various languages in human society. Regardless of written or oral expression, everyone uses euphemisms consciously or unconsciously in order to make communication continue smoothly and happily. Nowadays, the use of euphemism increases steadily, and people put forth new ideas continuously, so there are too many things for the eye to take in. In short, the study of Euphemism has made great progress in recent years, despite the thriving studies on euphemism, few specialized articles on translating euphemism have been published in the influential academic media. Many articles just touch upon it on the surface, confining themselves to the simple description and classifications of euphemistic phenomena. Unfortunately, they fail to carry out a thorough study on the translation of English euphemism, the increasingly important task in an age when cross-cultural communications flourish. In a word, the studies on translating English euphemism do not match the popularity and universality of euphemism. Owing to this, this thesis will mainly study English Euphemism, on the basis of the analysis of English Euphemism, and discuss the relationship between euphemism and main theories of Pragmatics, and put forward the translation strategy of English euphemism, combining the Pragmatic translation theory and Semantic translation theory. |
