The thesis concerns English language teaching and learning within a native language context. In particular, this paper focuses on the role of films in providing insights for teachers of English as a foreign language into the methods used by natives. This thesis adopts the research method of visual ethnography, which was realized by observing the film and taking evidentiary notes related to the dialogues and actions in it. This procedure was used to investigate English language teaching/learning theories and culture represented in the film My Fair Lady.In terms of these pedagogic considerations, concrete teaching/learning methods were explored. Factors that affect learning were found, including the learner's interest, motivation and volition. In terms of the cultural aspects related to English language teaching/learning, the efforts to institutionalize standardized English; the relationship between language and class identity, and one's philosophy of research-based knowledge production have all been documented and analyzed.Successful teaching is not equal to successful learning. They work together to achieve the goal. Hence, Professor Higgins and Eliza together reach the goal to get a flower seller to become a lady.
