An Analysis On The Molding And Evolving Of Jean Monnet's Supranational Idea

This is a master's thesis would be to study the role of the individual in the historical development. From the perspective of history, the main target is "the father of Europe", Jean Monnet. His practice of the supranational idea is an important component of the movement of European integration; it played an important role in the campaign early and achieved success. With the movement into the 1960s, the direction of the movement of European integration, the supranational spirit suffered a series of setbacks. Monet play an active role in harmonizes their efforts and make great efforts to further the development of the movement of European integration.The movement of European integration is a historical movement, which has its development process and logic. the movement of European integration has close ties with the European history. From the perspective of macro history, we can know that the development of Europe society has been pursuing some form of reunification. Millennium history of European shows that Europe cannot achieve the reunification by the traditional way-the war. Surprisingly, the war didn't bring the ultimate reunification of Europe. So that Europe missed its former dominant position in the new world. The United States and the Soviet Union all become the world leader. When European would like to solve own problems, they feel the pressure from the outside world, which forced it to accept the antipathetic fact. Under this particular background Monnet have carry out his supranational idea. The supranational idea II has created a new way to the joint at the end of World War and the country has benefited for the supranational idea. Monnet has a beautiful wish about the establishment of the ECSC, and feels that a solid foundation of European Union has formed. However, the development of society is not always in accordance with the people's consciousness. After the initial exploration of European integration movement and the medium-term, stable development, it started their direction.As yet, the European Union has been established. The EU has already become an important pole in multicolor world. What is the future, although depends on their development and transformation of the global situation. We have study the action of Jean Monnet in the early, which redound to understand the project of the reunification of Europe and judge the future.This paper is not a textual research about Monnet's life. It is an analysis on Monet idea and the particularly of his action on the base of individual events. Monnet has own philosophy about the development and future of Europe. His ideas don't come from the theoretical studies, but from practice. Therefore, this paper will not study Monnet as an ideologist, but from the perspective of a practicer, Monnet is an international practicer, who was up and doing in the economic, political, and diplomatic and so on. The area of this study is the supranational idea. The first chapter will introduce the basic theory of supranational idea in order to highlight the differences between Monet and others firstly.The second chapter will summarize the basic content about supranational idea. His concept was embodying by the building of ECSC. The Author would comprehend his concept in three aspects. The transfer of sovereignty is the key way; integrative economic section; the ultimate goal is the establishment of the United States of Europe.The third chapter will analyze the formation of his idea, from Monnet's experience. Consciousness comes from practice, Monnet's practice provide the experience for his idea. The problem about France and Germany was a good chance. Meanwhile, the backdrop of the Cold War was the prerequisite conditions in post-war.The fourth chapters will point out supranational idea has changed after the failure of the EDU. Monnet's influences have weakened, and the supranational spirit was not inherited in the Treaty of Rome. Monnet has started looking for new ways to continue his idea. In this section, we have realized the impact of the failure of the EDC and analyzed the reasons of evolvement.Finally, the paper concludes that Monnet open a new door. Although the developments are not in accordance with his concepts, his practice is great exploits.
