In the 80s and 90s of 20th century, Chinese literature witnesses a prominent phenomenon--some writers appear interest on religion and treat it as a way to solve their spiritual pain. In their opinion, religion is like a salvation of modern society's spiritual lost. These writers could not be labeled as pagan, and they are intending to explore the meaning of human life and facing the harsh reality with great courage. Although living is some sort of meaningless procedure, they refuse to accept their fate. The passion as an archetype appears in their works frequently. Bei Cun is such a novelist, who has a religious complex, and insists his own way to explain life in a Christian way of thinking. In today's China, most people believe in no God, so, Bei Cun's exploration is ordeal while fruitful. In recent years, scholars pay more and more attention to the relationship between Chinese modern and contemporary literature and the Christian culture. Since Bei Cun is a Christian novelist, so he obtains more concern than other writers. Unfortunately, most critics haven't made deep and fruitful research on Christianity--that must lead to a deviation in their analyses and conclusions. I have been a Christian for more than four years and made some research on the Bible. And for this reason, I could more easily understand Bei Cun's attitude and posture in his creation. This thesis concludes three parts-- One, relation of theme and Christianity: the key point of Christianity is original sin--confession--redemption. One important theme of Bei Cun's novels is "original sin and painfulness--confession and crying for God—self-redemption and God's redemption; Two, strategy of narration—in order to make Logos' (God's words) position firmly in today's " secular context" in modern literature, Bei Cun adapts a go-extreme strategy of narration; Three, meaning and limitation: except Bei Cun's religion ideology, his works influence and mould modern people's values and attitudes towards life. Jesus' Love and spirit of tolerance can heal the trauma of modern society.
