An Argument On Evaluation Of Key Characters In The History Of Three Kingdoms

The stories about the Three Kingdoms have been talked about with great interest by many people since the Song and Yuan dynasty. The evaluations about the historical figures of Three Kingdoms also become the focus of different social values collision. As the Romance of Three Kingdoms widely disseminates,with now burning comment on Three Kingdoms make many evaluations deviate from materialistic interpretation of history and echo what other says. This thesis attempts to take several characters with great influence as example, set about Chen Shou's evaluations, inquiry how to evaluate characters of Three Kingdoms correctly based on historical facts.The History of Three Kingdoms is the only well preserved famous work on the history of Three Kingdoms -Wei, Shu Han and Wu in our country. The author -Chenshou,who was not only narrated history vividly and concisely but also gave his comments upon the character in the narrative process and each biography's ending. Although most of his comments were reasonable,there are some viewpoints are questionable because of being influenced by lots of subjective and objective factors. This thesis mainly discusses four subjects named whether Caocao was a man who was"Only Using the Talented"; Whether Liubei was "shorter on wits, ruse and talent than Caocao"; Whether Guanyu was "upright and cocky"; Whether Zhugeliang was "short on stratagy and ability of directing warfare ". Moreover, the thesis puts forward some different opinions about many important persons, such as Lvbu and Taoqian etc.Thus, it points out The History of Three Kingdoms contains lots of improper comments on the character, with the hope of providing beneficial help for us to understand the historical figures and event correctly.
