Skills And Arts, Both Important

When New Ceramics Art is the indispensable component of modern arts, the trend of more emphasis on ideas rather than skills has become the main guidance in many artists' works after they gave up the traditional purpose of practicability for their works ceramics. However, as far as the pure arts of modern ceramics works, I consider them both important. This article tries to illustrate this though some discussion on the relationship between skills and arts in modern ceramics with some examples of some both Chinese and international ceramics works as well as the author's own experience in his studies.It has been a long time since the discussion started on skills and arts. For ceramics arts, the special way of making using of porcelain material and the natural objects to create art works makes the art of ceramics very closely related with science and technology since the day it was born. At the feudalistic society times, ceramics arts were treated only as within the field of arts and crafts with the main purpose of practicability, therefore, skills were more important at that time during the production procedure. In modern times, with the coming of industry revolution and the fast development in science and technology, New Ceramics Art got its necessary technical support for its being formed. At the same time, handcrafts products have been replaced gradually by big industrialized mechanical products, and the unity of skills and arts was broken when the cold feeling mechanical products failed to make people to feel warm in their heart, and the loneliness began to merge into people's heart. As a result, the artistic form that works best in bringing the nature and human close to each other, ceramics appeared in more people's field of vision. At the end of 19^th century and the beginning of 20^th century, some painting artists began to work in ceramics, and they provided support in terms of artistic ideas for the formation of New Ceramics Art.New Ceramics Art was born after the World War II. The single purpose of practicability in traditional ceramics works was set aside, and the artists combine their own artistic ideas and inspirations about beauty with their works. In many cases, ideas became the sole purpose pursued by the artists in their ceramics works, leaving skills being ignored. This article illustrates that the relationship between skills and arts is that they are equally taken as important in New Ceramics Art with a large amount of examples. Besides, the topic of Chinese New Ceramics Art is discussed as a full chapter here, from the personal artists' angle and the total development situation of m Chinese New Ceramics Art. It is also illustrated that only by combining the traditional technical advantages with the cultural arts advantages in porcelain, with both skills and arts emphasized, can Chinese New Ceramics Art be more developed.
