One group of the most frequently-used and important words in English is performative verbs (PVs), the study of which occupies an important part in the field of pragmatics. Although much attention of the lexicographers and linguists have been paid to the study of the incorporation of pragmatic information (PI) in English learner's dictionaries (ELDs), the theoretical and practical research on PI concerning PVs in English-Chinese learner's dictionaries (ECLDs) is still rare to be seen. And also both the amount of PI concerning PVs and methods used to present it are not satisfactory enough to meet the needs of Chinese learners of English (CLEs). After analyzing PI concerning PVs into three subcategories (context information, functions of PVs and speech acts concerned with PVs) from the perspective of language use, the author of the thesis manages to establish a tentative model of the incorporation of PI concerning PVs into ECLDs based on the comparative study between three ELDs and three ECLDs and the experimental study of the pragmatic difficulties that CLEs meet at using PVs and the CLEs' needs of PI about PVs in ECLDs. Hopefully, this study will give some suggestions to the future research on the compilation of ECLDs.
