Chunyu is a kind of bronze percussion instrument in ancient China and has been remarked in some ancient Chinese documents, such as Zhou Li, Guo Yu etc. Archaeological findings show that Chunyu was poplular during the Spring and Autumn Period to Han Dynasty.So far, the total amount of Chunyu unearthed has achieved to 150, and they were found in many provinces, such as Shandong, Anhui, Jiangxi, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Sichuan, Hubei and so on. Nowadays, more and more scholars become to pay close attention to this researching area. The origination, race belonging, periodization, function of Chunyu are focal points in their discussion. Nevertheless, they have not reached common viewpoints.Fortunately, some new valuable findings of Chunyu provide new evidences for further and deeper studying in 2000 year to 2005.Start with the exvacation situation of chunyu, the author analyzed their types, patterns and characteristics in the period and regions, based on the historical documents, excavated reporters, and the instrument itself. Attributing to the new materials, the research on chunyu at Wuyue and Qi-lu district are added. At the end of the thesis, a new proposition was put up, that is chunyu can be divided into three main cultural systems in the light of different shapes, different users, different functions and different symbolizations.
