The opera the 100th Bride created in the 1980's was mainly composed by Wang Shiguang who is a famous composer in modern China. And this opera is a successful and representative musical drama work of Wang Shiguang. It draws on the folk legend of Xinjiang, full of the local and national comedy sentiment of Xinjiang and also of rich Uygur musical style. In the music of this opera, Wang Shiguang fuses the national melodic materials and the western creating techniques with frequent use of the expressing ways of western operas. All of these makes the opera the 100th Bride a characteristic art work which is representative in the creation and development of Chinese national opera.This paper is divided into four parts, each of which repectively talks about the background of opera, the content and music of opera, the artistic characteristics of opera and also the inspiration the opera the 100th Bride has on Chinese national opera and the status and significance of this opera in the history of Chinese opera development.
