Canada is the serious nation in crisis of identity in the world, because Canada doesn't like the other nation states to develop the history of the modern nation state from the fore modern nation of the loyalty, therefore, It also hasn't the profound root from the royalty of kingship to the modern national identity. What it has only the loyalty to the French household and the British household of the other shore of Atlantic Ocean in the memory of Canada history, moreover, the conflict of English-Canadians and French-Canadians and the huge influence of the United States also deepen this kind of crisis. However, Canada hasn't been given up looking for the characteristic itself, molding the united national identity. The national identity of Canada exactly formed in the process of revolting the territorial expansion, the economy and culture erosion of the United States and in the process of adjusting the ethical policy continuously. The thesis try to take the influence of the U.S.A. and the conflict of English-Canadians and French-Canadians which affect the national identity of Canada as the key to study the three stages of national identity-the germination of nationalism, the development stage of the national identity and the stage of formation .The article is divided into five sections.Section1, The general situation of the main races. In this section the author introduces general situation of English-Canadians and French-Canadians in the earlier period. And explains the profound reasons of the conflict of English-Canadians and French-Canadians according to study the different characteristic in their development.Section2, Two wars-the germination of nationalism. American Revolution and the war of 1812 were two wars that affected the history of Canada. In two wars, the United States once invaded Canada and aroused the emotion that Canadians shared a bitter hatred of the enemy. The emotion of nationalism formed in the wars made it to deviate the United States and walk a uniquely developing road.Section3, Federation-the cradle of national identity. The formation of the federation was the result of not only the colonial development, but also the demand that resisted the expansion of the United States. The establishment of the united nation state contributed to the development of the national consciousness doubtless, and strengthened the need to the mutual identity. The moment of "Canada first" was an important performance.Section4, Multiculturalism-The united national identity. The national policy of Canada experienced the evolvement from assimilation and biculturalism to multiculturalism, the multicultural policy not only mollified the ethnical conflict, but also availed to resist the permeation of American culture, the tolerance it manifests becomes the substance of national identity of Canada.Section5, Conclusion and consideration. This section summarizes the discussion ahead, the author hope to give the illumination to the other nation states who have the similar experience according to analysis the national identity of Canada.
