On Narrative Modes

As a narration art, the novel cares about the skill and manner of narration, which is directly related to the esthetic implication and value reflection of the work, it will produce the entirely different art results even when the different narrative method is applied to the same materials and subjects. Seen from the perspective of narration theory the transformation of the narration distance and perspective adjusts the narration information. Distance and perspective were defined as"modes"by G. Genette, which has been an important concept in analysis of the narration words. The paper takes the narration modes as object, centering on the narration distance and perspective, based on the G. Genette's theory of narration words, and with the different views of scholars from various countries in different times, the paper tries to understand deeply the narration method of narration work. The paper has three parts:The first chapter, outline, has analyzed the relation between the story and the distance, based on which the paper defines the concept"modes"in theory, modes refers to adjust and masters the narration information, which is divided into two forms: distance and perspective, expressing the multiple relations between the story and distance.The second chapter, narration distance, refers to quantity control of the narration information and the imitation degree, the chapter is divided into event narration and discourse narration. Narration and demonstration as two rhetoric skills play the vital role in narration, to which many scholars had the explanations in history. Highly demonstration and pure narrating are often inextricably involved, even can be mixed together. The discourse narration can be divided into three types: narration words or speaking words, transformation words and imitation words.The third chapter, narration perspective, refers to the relation between the narration and event. It is the premise to make clear the boundary between the perceiver and narrator for analyzing the perspective questions, there is a lot of confusion in the classification of perspective, this paper has analyzed the clarification and explanation about the perspective questions from the scholar Shen Dan and tries hard to carry it forward; in narration practice, use of different focuses way at the same time can produce different narrative effect.The change of the narration distance has constructed a different art space between the reality and dreamland, however, the uncertainty of perspective results in many explanations to the text. Only where has it been understood first, can the experiment and attempt of effective writing skills be realized, and the recognition of expression way and esthetic characteristic be deepened, and the level of appreciates and criticism be enhanced.
