The Study On The Pragmatics Of VC And The Analysis For Entering To The Constructions Relevant To It

Based on the former research, this thesis represents a detailed description of internal structure of VC in modern Chinese, which compares and analyzes the conditions where VC enters the verb-copying construction,"Ba"Zi construction,"Bei"Zi construction and topic sentences. And also it analyzes the reasons why VC is distributed differently in the four constructions mentioned above. The correlated theory of pragmatics is conveyed in this thesis. The main contents are as follows:I. The internal structure of VC follows the information transferring pattern of normal language—from known (old) to unknown (new) to make events happen one by one. Furthermore, VC will not bring forward the new information just for emphasizing the resultant affairs. New information is the focus that the listeners pay great attention to and the focus usually appears at the end of a sentence. Then the complement after the adnex in VC comes to be the focus. The definitions of focus and prediction are two concepts related closely to each other. Prediction does have some relationship with focus and the two always appear accordingly. So prediction in VC is adnex, focus depends on prediction for existence.II. VC is an integral compound structure composed by adnex verb and complement verb or the adjective. If we regard the incidents caused by a single action as a simple event structure, then we can regard them expressed by VC as a compound event structure. That is: E=E1+E2According to the relationship between the two incidents, we divide VCs into different types which are"Self-acting VC","Objective render VC"and"Subjective render VC".III. According to the investigation of distributing conditions of different VCs in correlative sentences, we have noticed that whether VC could enter to the verb-copying construction,"Ba"Zi construction,"Bei"Zi construction and topic sentences or not restricted by VC render's powerfulness or weakness. That is the affect's powerfulness of the incident's mobile restricted whether VC can engage itself into four constructions mentioned above. If VC's render ability reduces gradually, at the same time its protruding degree falls down correspondingly.
