Research On The Miao Embroidery Adornment Pattern In Hunan And Guizhou Areas

The Miao nationality is one of the ancient minority nationalities widely scattered in China, which has a larger population and complicated branches. The Miao enjoys a good fame worldwide for the delicate embroidery and splendid decoration. The art of embroidery has a very long history and reflects the characteristics of this race. Because of the extensive distribution of Miao people, its embroidery has been diversified in adornment pattern under the circumstance of fusion with other nationalities and its own branching. These splendid figures and designs on it reflect Miao's own culture and art features. During a time without local character, these designs and figures play the role of character in its unique way. Through it, one can understand the history and present condition of the Miao,and understand their psychology, thinking patterns, and cultural and artistic consciousness, and seek out the trace of national migration, disposition and the formation of aesthetic feeling.This paper spreads from analyzing color, shape, composition, theme, pattern connotation and its aesthetic methods used in embroidery, to practical research on redesigning the Miao embroidery adornment patterns: the perfect combination of traditional embroidery art and modern designs makes it mainstream the cultural heritage and worldwide designs which are pleasant to eyes. It not only enhances the national spirits in modern design, but also entitles it to more energy and vigor.Firstly, the Miao embroidery adornment pattern in Hunan and Guizhou areas should be given protection as well as research, that is to say, conducting a brief analysis on social and history environment and value; Secondly, carrying on further analysis from the following aspects, such as its color, shape, composition, theme and connotation etc. Thirdly, taking solid example as object, and analyzing the practical research of Miao embroidery combined with modern design. The main point is to study how to apply the positive in the former to the latter, and what influence will it have on national specialties market and modern design concept after application. Finally, relevant conclusions and inspiration are arrived from the example of design the bath towel in Meng Dong River, a traveling resort in the west of Hunan.
