Comedic Sketch is one of important styles of comic art incontemporary China. Its outstanding and continuous flourishing maybe taken as a miracle to Chinese artistic community and even to thewhole history of art. So it's absolutely necessary to analyze ComedicSketch's aesthetic value from the perspective of cultural studies.However, there are only few theoretic works touching directly uponComedic Sketch in China, and furious debates over this art style havearisen in Chinese academic community.Comedic Sketch has distinct dramatic characteristics in text,including animated characters, brief plots, swift and concentratedconflicts, and explicit themes. In terms of form, Comedic Sketch'saesthetic characteristics have two aspects: one in language, marked byusing vivid and popular colloquy, various rhetorical devices, andmultiform fashionable discourses; the other in action, marked byexaggeration, typification and centralization of characters' behavior.If we probe into Comedic Sketch in terms of culture, we woulddiscover the reason why Comedic Sketch is so popular in China lies inits unique cultural characteristics: keeping abreast with the presenttimes, conforming to contemporary Chinese people's aesthetic tasteand displaying special cultural connotation and artistic fascination.Comedic Sketch's popularity is closely associated with maturecomic skills. Among the artistic skills seen frequently incontemporary Chinese Comedic Sketch are exaggeration, suspense,peripeteia, misapprehension and paradox. These skills have produceddifferent aesthetic effects respectively in their application tocontemporary Chinese Comedic Sketch.The dissemination and reception of Comedic Sketch is anotherdimension of aesthetic activity, which differs from Comedic Sketch'screation. Ever since its birth, Comedic Sketch has been active on various stages. It has quickly caught hundreds of millions of people'svision by television. As far as receiver of Comedic Sketch isconcerned, their reception psychology is affected with region and race,times, social status, aesthetic ability, imitation inclination, etc; and theprocess of their reception consists of three stages: "view" (aestheticperception), "taste" (aesthetic experience), and "apperception"(aesthetic transcendence).Comedic Sketch is closely connected with the popular aestheticculture; the former has, since its birth, been deeply imprinted with thelater. The germination and prosperity of Comedic Sketch benefit frompopular aesthetic culture, while the intrinsic negative elements of thelater have also impact on the former. In return, Comedic Sketch hascontributed considerably both to contemporary Chinese popularaesthetic culture and to the history of Chinese comedy and even ofChinese art, which oughtn't to be underestimated.Despite of affirming the artistic value and position ofcontemporary Chinese Comedic Sketch, we cannot simply neglectexisting problems in it and unprecedented severe challenges against it.At the same time, we should actively search feasible solutions for it,for example, expanding the community of Comedic Sketch's authors,studying contemporary western comic art in more depth, anddeveloping top-notch artistic works of absurd and humorous style. Itis predicted that we can promote contemporary Chinese ComedicSketch from entertainment products to real artworks, and it can bereceived and approved by more and more scholars and commonreceivers in the near future, and will be eventually uploaded into thehistory of art as an independent style of comic art.
