There exists a very complicated process from the source language to the target language in translation activities. If this process were ignored with emphasis of two ends of translation, the research on translation theories would not be as clear as a bell, which necessarily caused translators apart from translation theories or vice versa. The research of translation process may help us recognize translation nature more clearly, which will produce profound influence on the establishment of system of translatology. Therefore, the author's dissertation will discuss a key part in translation process—pragmatic transformation in the light of relevance-theoretic approach and skopostheorie. Skopostheorie will help translators make sure the target reader groups as well as the general translation style and also help translators organize the whole target text according to the skopos or function to achieve. Relevance-theoretic approach helps translators share the same cognitive context to the fullest with the original writer to achieve the writer's communicative intention, and then seek optimal relevance combining with target readers'expectations. By virtue of these two theories, the author's dissertation will aim to establish a hypothesis model of pragmatic transformation with a case study including a Chinese article and other examples on the basis of two situations: one is that the original writer's intention coincides with the skopos in the target text, the other is that the original writer's intention doesn't coincide with the skopos in the target text. This pragmatic transformation model includes the following three steps: 1. the establishment of skopos and general translation style. 2. the analysis of pragmatic transformation operating. 3. the organization of translation version. What's more, a possible solution is put forth about a controversial but important problem in strategies of pragmatic transformation—how to keep the balance between the form and meaning in pragmatic transformation. The solution in the author's dissertation is keeping the form and meaning consistency between two texts to the fullest under the precondition of skopos to achieve in the translated text. If not, the"meaning"is given priority over the"form". The purpose of the author's dissertation is to consummate and enrich strategies of pragmatic transformation with the theoretic support of these two theories, especially to make this hypothesis model established in the author's dissertation more rational and implementary. Moreover, with the analysis of this model as well as the strategy analysis about the"form"and"meaning", it aims to narrow the gap in some degree between translation theories and practice and give some enlightenment for those translation researchers, especially beginners in translation practice.
