American humorous literature has unique artistic style. Mark Twain is the most outstanding representative in American traditional humorous literature. His humorous works have serious profound ideological connotations. Twain's humorous artistic style is unique, and humorous skills are excellent. He obtained high artistic achievements. Joseph Heller is the most important representative of black humor. That black humor has been a world renowned literary school is inseparable from the impact of his masterpiece Catch-22.Traditional humor and black humor belong to the humorous category and have the basic characteristics of humor, but there are obvious differences in social ideological and cultural background, value orientation, color, characterization and language style. This dissertation mainly analyzes and compares Twain's and Heller's humorous novels suitably giving dual attention to other writers and works to systematically elaborate the similarities and differences.Mark Twain and Joseph Heller have profound influences upon the later generation literature. Their literature creation practice takes to us beneficial thinking in times, inheritance and innovation, national characteristics and world.
