| This thesis deals with the usage of three key notions of pragmatics in cloze, respectively variability, negotiability and adaptability. Cloze test, as a very popular device for foreign language testing, has existed for nearly half a century and has an important position in the field of language testing.In this thesis the author looks back to the birth, development, theoretical basis and other related issues of cloze test. Though some scholars have done many researches on cloze test, few are on the functions of pragmatics in cloze test. Therefore, further researches are still needed. So in this thesis the author investigates cloze test from the point of view of pragmatics.This thesis will investigate cloze from the perspective of Gestalt psychology, redundancy, pragmatic expectancy grammar, relevance theory, discourse analysis and the three key notions (variability, negotiability, adaptability) in pragmatics. It intends to make us have a more profound understanding about cloze. In recent years with the development of foreign language teaching and testing, it has been found out that testing and teaching are two aspects which can supplement each other. So this point of view will be of great help to further study of cloze and language teaching and learning. |
