With the development of the social and the interpersonal communication, we are paying more and more attention to listening comprehension in its usage not only in social life but also in language teaching and learning. In this paper the author explores the related issues of the listening comprehension and interpersonal communication, including its birth, development and theoretical basis, and gives some more explanations of listening comprehension in interpersonal communication in the light of linguistics. The paper attempts to explain listening comprehension in interpersonal communication in the perspectives of linguistics, psycholinguistics, and pragmatics. First of all, from the linguistic perspective, the author analyzes the phonological and semantic factors that influence listening comprehension. There are dialect, register, and paralanguage that influence listening comprehension phonologically. From the psycholinguistic perspective, the author envisages listening comprehension as psychological processing mainly from integration and memorization of information. Comprehension of the information is about the integration of new information and given information, and transformation from short-term memory to long-term memory. Arousing attention is closely related to activating the short-term memory. Then, from the pragmatic point of view, great importance is attached to culture and discourse in listening comprehension. Interpersonal communication is culture-bound and culture-specific. We can research listening comprehension in interpersonal communication with discourse analysis. And this research intends to further study listening more scientifically and comprehensively, and to make listening teaching more efficiently through communicative approach.
