Relevance-Adaptation Model, the theoretical framework of this paper, is the newly proposed and comparatively comprehensive communicative model. This paper firstly makes an elaboration on this model, then analyzes the questionings in TV interview programs under this model, the results of which can serve as the valid and powerful support to the rationality and validity of the model for successful questioning. This study can also help people realize the essence of human communication, reveal their intuition of language use and improve their linguistic and pragmatic performance, especially in questioning skills. Before the elaboration of Relevance-Adaptation Model, this paper first reviews some related communicative models. Though they have produced profound influence on the pragmatic field, few of them are adequately convincing on explaining the essence of language intercommunication. Many scholars have also made some researches on the skills of questioning, but the results are not very ideal, which is partially due to the inadequate explanatory power of the theories they used. So it is necessary for us to turn to another theory. Relevance-Adaptation Model offers us a more comprehensive perspective on the communicative model. It claims the process of language use involves two aspects: language production and interpretation, and the success of communication depends on the mutual efforts of both speaker and hearer. It seems that the framework proposed in this new model is much more convincing than any model in the previous theories. Since context is indispensable in the analysis of Relevance-Adaptation Model, Chapter 1 also offers a general introduction of context under this model. Chapter 2 gives the introduction of questioning, including the theoretical explanation of questioning and the questioning in TV interview programs. Based on these theories, the Third Chapter offers an in-depth discussion of questioning in TV interview programs under Relevance-Adaptation Model from three aspects: the contextual presumption before questioning in TV interview programs, the choices of linguistic forms by inter-adaptation with the contextual correlates, the dynamic interpretation of questioning meanings. The dynamic of context is the precondition of recognizing the production and interpretation of questioning. The choices of linguistic forms by inter-adaptation with the contextual correlates reflect the concrete process of production and interpretation and the dynamic interpretation of questioning meanings is the result of linguistic intercommunication. All these three aspects are the claims of Relevance-Adaptation Model.TV interview program is chosen as the data resource of this paper because the questioning in TV interview is a typical kind of communication between speaker and hearer, and based on the styles and characteristics of this kind of program, the communication in TV interview program, usually taking the"question-answer"pattern, is much more likely successful than other kinds of conversation in our daily life. These data which are analyzed under Relevance-Adaptation Model can well explain the process of questioning in TV interview programs. Therefore, this analysis has a mighty power to support the rationality of Relevance-Adaptation Model. Finally, a general conclusion of all the essential points developed in this study is given and some general guides are drawn from the research for how to conduct well in our daily questioning.
