Content:The Duanwu Festival, also called the Dragon Boat Festival, is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month according to the Chinese calendar. For thousands of years, the festival has been marked by eating Zong Zi and racing dragon boats etc. There are many tales about the origin of the Duanwu Festival, but the most prevalent one is that the festival commemorates the death of Qu Yuan, an honest minister who is said to have committed suicide by drowning himself in Miluo river. The Gangneung Danoje Festival is the largest and best preserved traditional festival still performed toady in the Gangneung region, Korea. It begins on the fifth day of the fourth month of the lunar calendar with the brewing of the sacred liquor, and ends with the ritual of "sending off the deity" on the evening of the seventh day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar. The beginning of the Gangneung Danoje Festival can be tracked down in the rituals to mountain deity, tutelary deity and sea deity in ancient Korea. These rituals combine with the concept of "Duanwu", which comesform china, to form the Gangneung Danoje Festival. Both Chinese and Korean scholars have done a lot of researches about Duanwu Festival and Gangneung Dannoje Festival. Most of the works were seeking the origin of the festivals or discussing the meaning of them, few article concerned the difference between the two festivals. Because the concept of "Duanwu" come form china, when Gangneung Dannoje Festival was successfully registered as world intangible culture heritage with the United Nations in 2005, dispute happened between the people of the two countries. Therefore, in the interests of thoroughly analyzing the similarities and differences, seeking the ways to preserve intangible culture heritages and exploring the means for cultural exchange, the writer studied a great deal of relevant materials, and then came close to QingYang region in china and Gangneung region in Korea, used method of participant observation and deep interview of fieldwork etc to record and express the any aspects of the festivals.
