Burning incense is a special religious practice for Tibetans, The thesis analyses the origin of burning incense practice, how if evolved and the invocation expression form. The invocations are part of the body of literature in which they play an important role.The thesis divided into three parts. The first part if an study is the origin of the burning incense practice and how it relates to primitive religious. Before 7AD. When Buddhism entered Tibetan areas, in the Bon religion the practice of burning incense was essentially a cleansing ritual. Whereas in Tibetan Buddhism the smoke was an offering to gods. Afterwards both practices gradually merged together as it is still practiced today.The second part looks at protect deities and mountain gods as mentioned in invocations, this part studies the private lives of deities and gods and their behaviour.The third part studies in vocations that like in classic Tibetan literature are recited according to a certain pitch of voice and rhythm, if also analyses the literary style of the invocations, how the words are used to produce different descriptive effects.
