A Contrastive Study Of English Causatives And Chinese Causatives

Chinese causatives and English causatives and are the ordinary sentence type in the English language and the Chinese language,which all represent the concept that is to make another person or thing perform some action or keep some state.The expression of Such concept is based on the same cognition of the "human-centred theory".English causatives and Chinese causatives can not only express the same concept,but show some similar aspects on the language structure which are reflected on the different components linear arrent in the surface structure and logic relations among the different components and semantic expressions in the deep structure.The thesis is aimed to synchronically compare the syntactic,semantic and pragmatic features between two groups of Chinese eausatives and English causatives,Chinese 'Shi' causatives and English marked causatives,Chinese Non-mark causatives and English Non-mark causatives,with the guidance of the general theory and method of the contrastive linguistics,the structuralism theory as the contrastive construction and other linguistic theory concerned.The former research on the contrastive study between English causatives and Chinese causatives still remain a stage for exploring into the corresponding relations between the English-Chinese sentence components and have not touched on the reasons and laws of the similarities and differences between the two language structures.The thesis not only contributes to the study of the components corresponding relations further,but analyze the reasons and laws of the similarities and differences caused between the two groups of causatives.Through the research,it is found that both the Chinese causatives and the English causitives have double-core structrure at the deep layer.The two groups of causatives present similar features in the process of transforming from the deep layer to the surface layer. It is an important discovery that the two cores of the Exerting Core Structure and the Influencing Core Structure combine in the process of transporting form the deep layer to the surface layer,and this applys to both Chinese Non-mark causatives and English Non-mark causatives.The transforming process also obeys the same evolutional rules in both English causatives and Chinese causatives,which afford the proof to explain the similarities and differences between the two sentence structures.The main body of the thesis focuses five parts:the first part gives a brief explain to the bound,aim,meaning and acutuality of the research;the second part compares the transforming process and the syntactic features of the components of Chinese causatives and English causatives;the third part compares the semantic features and the Sentence Model of Chinese causatives and English causatives;the fourth part compares the pragmatic features of Chinese causatives and English causatives in terms of the action of the mark,and try to explain the results with cognitive theory; the last part sums up the whloe thesis.
