This thesis studies grammatical encoding in the process ofEnglish writing by Chinese primary school students. Think-aloudmethod is employed in the study to elicit data. Participants under thisstudy are ten Chinese primary school students aged from nine tofourteen. In the thesis, a second language production model isproduced bystudying the second language production in the process ofEnglish writing by Chinese primary school students. The majorfindings for the present studyare the following:1. The grammatical encoding pattern in Levelt's languageproduction model produced in 1989 can be applied in secondlanguage production as well as in first language production.2. The enormous similarities between the processes of secondlanguage production and first language production are provedto exist.3. With different proficiencies, the impact of the first languagegrammatical encoding on the second language grammaticalencoding decreases.
