A. S. Byatt is considered to be one of the rising stars in contemporary English literature. Of all the novels written by A. S. Byatt, Possession is regarded the most famous one whieh has gained her Aer Lingus International Fiction Prize, Commonwealth Prize as well as Booker Prize respectively. The novel mainly tells love stories of four scholars in Victorian age and modern societies respectively. Byatt shows her great talents in both language skills and narrative styles. This paper, with its focus on historical aspect and female discourse aspect, aims to further illustrate how Byatt successfully rewrites both female history and female literary history. It holds that by intentionally juxtaposing three parallel sets of plots in different historical periods, Byatt successfully pieces together broken female experiences and rewrites female history through colors, names as well as imagery. Meanwhile, Byatt skillfully employs several unique narrative styles including Streams of Consciousness, open endings and so forth. Such kinds of narrative styles, in addition to setting a good example for all female writers to follow, have also infused new life to contemporary literature field. There is no doubt that the world literature circles will take on a completely new look before long.
