This paper, which consists of five parts, is a reinterpretation of the celebrated novel Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding, the English novelist, and the motif of desert island in British literature.In the introduction, it introduces the life and writings of William Golding, and describes the condition of the studies of Lord of the Flies by Chinese and foreign researchers and major problems about them.In the first chapter, it describes the motif of desert island. It expounds the geographical and cultural conditions of England, and the influences on motif of desert island in British Literature. Then, it describes the motif of desert island in western literature and analyze the motif of desert island in Lord of the Flies.In the second chapter is the analysis of figures in motif of desert island. In the first part, seen from the perspective of feminism, while the hero and anti-hero perspective in the next part, it chooses Robinson Crusoe and Lord of the Flies as examples.In the third chapter is the exertion of irony in Lord of the Flies. This paper mostly elucidates on Situational irony and Structural irony, and their effects on plot, figures, style, symbol, and narration angle in Lord of the Flies.Conclusion: The development of literature is a course from simple to complex, simplicity to perfect, and so does the motif of desert island in British literature.
