| The mother- daughter relationship is regarded as a principal topic in the field of feminist theorization for its great effort on the growing of the female. As an existentialist feminist writer , Simone de Beauvoir has made an incisive analysis in the great masterpiece The Second Sex on mothering. What's more, in her 1st memoir A Dutiful Daughter she has retrospected her early life with her mother who influenced her a lot .Along with her turn to be a feminist ,she tried to create varies of mother-daughter pattern in her late works .However, the research on Beauvoir in the past have paid less attention to this area. That is why I start form here .And in my thesis ,I intend to have a close reading on two of the writer's works The Mandarins and Les Belles Images with relative feminist theories such as existentialism feminist theory as well as Psychoanalysis feminist theory—Nancy Chodorow's The Reproduction of Mothering, trying to find out the women's general living condition under the patriarchy society and the way to liberation .The whole thesis are composed of three parts, the introduction ,the body as well as the conclusion. In the first part, let's have a general idea of the study which have done on the writer ,and then I will illuminate the necessity of the topic.The second part is the body, it has three chapters .The 1st one is to analysis the mother-daughter pattern in two novels, which was a preparation to further studyChapter two, we use Mothering Reproduction Theory to expound why it is .chapter three, we change a standpoint using the autobiography to analysis the mother-daughter relationship in the novels, we will find them reflecting the reality of writer's own life with her mother.At last, we draw a conclusion: mother plays a very important role in daughter's growing process, and mother should be responsible to her daughter. In the patriarchy society, mother's self-awareness is the precondition of daughter's self-awareness.
