A.S.Byatt is one of the foremost writers in contemporary British literature. Possession is her most successful novel. This novel is a multileveled narrative one, illustrating a variety of themes and thoughts of human beings, among which Byatt's feminine opinions are the most prominent. This thesis attempts to analyze how Byatt unifies women's fragmented experiences and recovers female history, so as to form a more comprehensive and profound understanding of the rich feminist implications in the novel in the light of feminism. Since female characters are at the center of this novel, it is necessary that we make an analysis of their experiences to show their existence and their sufferings confront in their search for self-realization and freedom. This thesis analyzes narrative time and narrative texts used in Possession to further demonstrate Byatt's feminist ideas.
