The Great God Brown is one of Eugene O'Neill's middle plays in which expressionistic features and techniques are explicitly demonstrated. The thesis examines the multi-themes, expressionistic features and techniques used in this play. Eugene O'Neill sublimates it with his creative expressionistic techniques, especially the use of mask. As a result, the characters' inner worlds are vividly externalized to the audience and readers. From a perspective of examining the relationship between expressionistic techniques and main themes of the play, the thesis focuses on expressionistic techniques, namely, the use of mask, monologue, stage settings and directions by which Eugene O'Neill displays the multi-themes concerning self-searching, maternal love and brotherhood. The use of mask makes the play a milestone in Eugene O'Neill's life of writing plays. Self-searching can be always found in Eugene O'Neill's plays. Based on such a theme, The Great God Brown impresses readers and audience to a certain degree.
