The properties of"Ge"and its related problems are the important Chinese characteristics. Recent studies on Chinese have been related to them. Lin[1 ] (1998) said that when"Ge"is used, its domain must be explicitly or implicitly specified,in our term, it must be context–related."Ge"must have an indefinite object or something of the sort in the VP/predicate, which co-occurs with it (the indefinite (semi)object requirement). As proposed by Zhao[2 ] (1992),"Dou"plays a crucial role in quantification and distributivity of"Ge". And it refers to what goes before it, so we have to move the object to the front of the sentence if we want to refer to the entire object. However, most of the proposals are related with the quantificational adverbial usage of"Ge", the works about its determiner usage are rare. This dissertation focuses on the determiner"Ge", trying to solve some problems from four points of view. This dissertation adopts the Principles and Parameters approach in the framework of generative grammar, and assumes that cross-linguistic variations are expected, but are constrained by general principles of natural language. For the syntax-semantics interface, we can conclude that possible interpretations of a linguistic expression are determined by its logical representations at LF, and that there is a close connection between syntactic structures and semantic representations, along the lines of the Compositionality Principle (Frege[4 ] (1960)). According to the principle, the meaning of an expression is to be derived systematically on the basis of its syntactic structure, as a function of the meanings of its components.
