A Study On Phonological Evolution Of Wenshui 100 Years

Wenshui lies in the west of Taiyuan Basin. Wenshui dialect belongs to Binzhou Region of Jin Dialect. As to the research of Wenshui dialect, it can not only study the regulations of Binzhou Region of Jin Dialect but see the effected degree of mandarin compared with other dialects. At present, the study on Wenshui dialect focus on existing ones without history study. It is the first time to study it for hundreds years. In the light of the reorganization of the historical materials and the research of the reality, the author approaches a subject from Wenshui accent and its changing direction, which enriches the researches about the history of Jin dialect to a certain extent.At the beginning of last century, Sweden linguist Berhhard Karlgren researched Wenshui dialect and recorded the pronunciation of 1358 characters, which were included in his work etudes sur la Phonologie Chinoise. It is a hundred years today. This pronunciation provides us with valuable data for our study on the development of Wenshui dialect during 100 years. From the angle of diachronic research, the thesis begins from Karlgren's record as the starting point, then compares systematically with the new research results in the middle of the 20^th century and at the late of 20^th century respectively, and thus describes the development of Wenshui dialect from three aspects: the initial, the final and the pitch.From the evolution of Wenshui dialect in about one hundred years, we can see that it's being in a changing process. Now Wenshui dialect is a result of inner and outer factors mixed together, which is not only restricted by its own structure but also influenced by the outer factors. Among the factors, mandarin is the main reason of the evolution; it greatly influences and infiltrates the Wenshui dialect. However, the evolution of Wenshui accent has its own characteristics. As a main dialect of Binzhou, which is the core area of Jin dialect, the evolution of its accent lags behind the other areas. There are some vestiges of mediaeval times' accent and even some reversion phenomena in the dialect. In a word, the evolution trend of Wenshui accent is from difficult to easy and it is gradually becoming similar to Mandarin but it still needs a long and hard process.
