A Small Stage Shows The Big World

Chinese mainland introduced American sitcom "Growing Pains" in 1992 as well as a completely-new television art form to Chinese television audience. Hereafter, Chinese directors began to create and make our own sitcoms. After decades of development, Chinese sitcoms come into blossom here and there, and have been widely accepted and loved by Chinese television audience. But the development is unbalanced, and bad and good sitcoms are intermingled; therefore, Chinese sitcoms are still far from the "Macroclimate". Compared to foreign sitcoms, research on Chinese sitcoms is still in the primary stage. Theoretical investigation lags behind the requirement of directing practical creations.Aiming at this situation, I firstly give detailed introduction to sitcoms in this thesis: I carefully trim and define the source, definition and features of sitcoms by using research findings made by researchers of film and television theories. Then, I make further investigation on present situation of Chinese sitcoms. It is true that Chinese sitcoms have achieved great accomplishment in the past decade. Onthis basis, I carry out detail analysis upon Chinese sitcom in playwriting, narrating methods, mentality of actors and actresses as well as viewers, and making models through comparative study between western and eastern sitcoms. And I also make a prediction on the future development trend of Chinese sitcoms. I believe Chinese sitcoms has a good future, meanwhile, I also put forwards expectation and requirements of audience to domestic sitcoms.
