Yan Lianke is one of stylists in modern local writers in China. He has been producing works instantly since he began writing novels in late 1970's. Although all of his works has been classified into four series by the critics, he has always been figuring the people from Balou mountain-area and describing the stories happened there. Even the soldier characters in the army-series novels are figured as peasant-soldiers, who have the same spirit and blood with peasants. He thinks of the suffering of lower class, the resisting of the desperate people and the meaning of life metaphysically. This dissertation aims to analyze Yan Lianke's narrative on resisting the absurd. In my opinion, under the superficial local writing, Yan Lianke elaborately showed people's absurd being and expressed his willingness of resisting it. In the novels, the characters have been facing in the doomed fate such as death, illness and so on. Therefore, if they want to be, they have to stoop to compromise, even lose their dignity. However, the compromise results into failure for their ideal being. And the failure is followed by a second resistance after some repose. It always repeats, never give up. The meaning of life is demonstrated during the repeating circle of suffering, resisting, frustrating, reposing and resisting as well as the circle of birth, death, survival and mortality. In the other word, the meaning of life lies on the process of resisting instead of the result of resisting. Obtaining the effect of absurd narrative, the author introduced the ironic narrative strategy and the stories are allegorized and in black humor style. In the description of absurd-resistance, Yan Lianke claims his thought on the meaning of life ontologically and his glorification to the life-force, etc. It is consistent prodigiously with Albert Camus' absurd philosophy. Hence, the resistance demonstrated in his novels has a Closing idiosyncrasy. The novels oppose the Inner world to the Exterior world. The Inner world is happy, passionate and isolated and the exterior world is materialized and distant. In his novels, the characters' resistance is Closing. They complain toward themselves and the ghosts and the blind dogs become their emotive reflection and spiritual support as a result of no external excess for emotion exchange. Although the works are ended with a returning stance, the people can't return to their Hometown actually. The returning is just a Utopian imagine and the dark expression of returning-hometown complex. The closing resistance makes all his novels vivid Yan's style and different from the other contemporary absurd narrative. The author's Closing resistance is out of mental reasons. On the one hand, every local writer has the return-to-hometown complex, on the other hand, the author himself has ambivalent sentiment toward the countryside. He is indignant when he sees the uncultured side of the country. At the same time, he can't leave the country mentally and love the Balou villagers more than any other writer for his returning-to-hometown complex.Yan Lianke concerns the fate of the root class sympathetically and he upgrades the personal experience into super-organic philosophy. His novels contain the tough spirit of resisting the absurd fate, which reflects the spirit of resisting desperation of another fighter in the 20th century, LuXun. Nowadays, the society is full of petty bourgeoisie sentiment. While Yan Lianke's writing is full of suffering, which will become something very huge across the literature field.
