The Syntactic Features Of China English In Editorials Of China Daily

The rapid internationalization of English will inevitably result in its nativization. The concept of "Englishes" shows that English is no longer what it used to be. British English and American English are not considered to be the two standard Englishes but just to be the two varieties of English. People in different regions or countries have their specific English expressions. Apart from British English and American English, there are other varieties of English, such as Canadian English, Singaporean English, Indian English, etc. China English is an English variety with Chinese characteristics, which possesses its specific linguistic features at the phonological level, lexical level, syntactic level and textual level.The present thesis focuses on the studies of the syntactic structures of China English. Through the comparison of the editorials of China Daily and International Herald Tribune, it is found that the sentences of China English are usually shorter than the Standard English ones; More simple sentences are preferred in China English while fewer multiple sentences and fewer subordinate clauses are used in China English; Inversion structures are seldom used in China English; passive voice structures are used in China English almost as often as they are used in Standard English, but fewer passive voice sentences of the present tense are used in China English.
