Eileen Chang's novel has strong feelings of a movie, which attracted many film creators to adapt. Among them is HongKong director Xu Anhua. She revised her works 'Love in a fallen city'(1984) as well as 'Eighteen springs'(1997) marking two historical and significant periods. The two experiences have achieved preliminary success, however, as a whole, they lack depth and coherence. In this paper, Michel Foucault's statement theory and the Geopolitical perspective are adopted to analyze the two adaptations. Thus a new idea of adaptation study is proposed. The paper consists of three parts, namely the instruction, the main body and the conclusion. The introduction, gives a general description and comment on present studies Xu Anhua and Eileen Chang at home and abroad. It demonstrates benefits of the study method adopted in the paper and the methods ability to bring new ideas of innovation to the subject. The main body contains four chapters. The idea of adaptation has changes since 1970s, from faithfulness value judgment to critical analysis; statement was introduced to the study of the movie adaptation. Xu Anhua, as a native HongKong, directs 'Love in a fallen city', demonstrate the who of her seniors, as well their embarrassment and confusion in the panic society which combines optimistic attitude of the pursuit with national identity and colonist agreement, this is best demonstrated in the statement among 'city', 'people' and 'war'. The novel 'Eighteen springs' is an experience of the sense of time by Eileen Chang, while the revise movie puts more emphasize on people's lack of identity. And this express their identity conflict by the form of an elegy when a HongKong finally returned to China, the salient points of two adaptations are different, neither 'Love in a fallen city' which was submerged by history nor 'Eighteen springs' which stresses atmosphere creation, can get rid of the influent of society beside the depth influence, the meaning is changed by different narrative angles, and this is an inevitable result when different mediums are crossed.
