Inscription, as a practical style, has always not been attached importance by the literary researchers. This paper pioneeringly chooses the Southern Dynasty's inscription as the research object, by deeply analyzing its stylistic content and artistic form and fully revealing its literary value, to establish its status in the process of inscription's development. In this paper, the Southern Dynasty's inscription will be placed under the background of the literary history and the unique contribution which is made by this inscription to the literature will be researched directly. This text is divided into three chapters.The first chapter is about Inscription's Summary. Section I includes the study's background, method and significance in this text. Section II gives a comparatively scientific and comprehensive definition on inscription, classifies it, and analyses its cultural background. Section III, by analyzing the subject and artistic forms of Pre-Qin, Han ,Wei and Jin Dynasty's inscription, explains the changing tracks of inscription's development before the Southern Dynasty. The detailed discussion of this section will provide a reference object and a foundation for the below content.Chapter II, the Subject of the Southern Dynasty's inscription, starting with the new changes, particularly emphasize the new phenomenon of its subject. From Section I to Section III, it respectively includes Aristocratic tendencies, the rise of Landscape Inscription and Buddhist Inscription ,both of which are kinds of inscription, and all-round analyses their political , social and cultural reasons about the rise of them. Section IV, the Southern Dynasty's inscription inherited and developed the traditional theme. Section V explains the cultural implications of the Southern Dynasty's inscription.Chapter III is about the Artistic Form of Southern Dynasty's inscription. Southern Dynasty's inscription exploration and innovation in the artistic form is rather special and becomes a brilliant scenery in the history of inscription. Section I of this chapter gives a detailed explanation to its structure: formulas, parallel-four languages and so on. Section II analyses its art achievements including several aspects: the polish of language, the pursuit of wonderful prosody and colorful words, the choice of imagery. In Section III, by comparing the Southern Dynasty's inscription with poems and Cifu in detail, it is believed that the Southern Dynasties'inscription is more similar to Cifu.
