Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) is the representational instrument musician of the late 19th century. He insisted the"pure music"creation, not compromising of the mainstream of the romantic period blindly, though he was living in the romantic period. He was always trying to maintain the tradition of German and Austrian sorts, hankering after the deep revealing of the inner emotion, and opposing for the skin-deep function, which made his composition unpretending, austere and philosophic. Despite the close ties between the works of Brahms and German-Austrian tradition, he had been above the impact of the romantic period. He persisted in the classical sense through his romantic works, which had formed his own characteristic style----the Romantic Classicist.This paper will analyze the skills of composing and aspects of performance of Brahms Piano Pieces OP.76 primarily by the way of referencing literature and theoretic analysis, and also integrating with my practice. Also it will ascertain further the style and characteristic of Brahms'piano works from the aspects like modality, harmonic, rhythm and cadence etc. and performing methods,and how he skillfully combined the romantic music and content with the traditional classical thoughts, techniques and formats.It is expected that on one hand, I could reveal Brahms'compositional ideas and musical styles, on the other hand it could become a reference practically for the piano education to expand the views of piano teaching, fulfill the contents of piano teaching and enrich the learning components for the piano learners.
