The Great Wall capriccio, composed by Mr. Liu Wenjin in 1980s last century, is a large concerto of folk instrument music. It has four movements,《关山行》,《烽火操》,《忠魂祭》,《遥望篇》.The vigorous and powerful melody throughout the whole music which is superexcellent and possesses supreme status in folk instrument music demonstrates great momentum of Chinese nationality. This works makes deep experiment from many aspects such as developing Erhu's artistic performance skills and exploring the expressive force of folk instrument. It was recognized as classical music in Erhu works and became the reserved performance in domestic and overseas Erhu instrumentalists and bands. This thesis will make a detailed analysis of this works in order to understand and open out its internal aesthetics.The text starts from the general situation of Erhu's development after PRC's foundation, makes introduction of the composer Liu Wenjin and the composing background of The Great Wall capriccio, ands make a detail analysis of this works integrally and partially. The author intends to deepen readers'recognization of the works through particularly explanation in every movement, make comments on its historical value and practical significance and discloses the composer's composing ideal and the thoughts of harmonious combination of eastern and western music. This thesis emphasizes particularly on analysis of composing skills in every movement, paragraph setting, melody conversion, and makes detailed statements on the theme, literal type, and expressive contents from different aspects.
