Chinese oil painting is of great importance in contemporary arts. Its development trend and the style are compared to the wind vane of the development of contemporary society and culture. Contemporary Chinese arts heated fast in the late of 1980s, especially in oil painting cycle, which drew highly attentions both at home and abroad. And more researches and analyze on contemporary Chinese arts and culture have been done in oil painting. From the special perspective of children images, contemporary oil painting can be divided into four categories according to the usages of the painters: first, poeticized children images; second, children images alienation; third, the watcher of; fourth, children images with cold eyes. The analyses and comparisons of certain works and artists show the special aesthetic values and cultural connotations of children images in contemporary oil paintings, which also have distinguished functions in different works of various styles. The high praise of childlike innocence presents the chase of kindness and beauty in human nature. However, the portrait of the alienated children images is the worst criticize of the phenomena beyond human nature in society."Pains-showing is the hope of curability". The alienated children images in use are an effective way of social relationship in the transformation from current oil painting to sociology.Either praise or defamation of children images, sympathetic or looking with cold eyes in works, all of these embody the innate knowledge of contemporary intellectuals and their feeling and thought of the social life.
