Discusses On Xun Zi's "Learning" Thought

It is well known that Xunzi, a great master of Confucian, established a huge system of Confucian ideology. Xunzi's main book is "Xunzi" ,in which Xunzi expressed his main thoughts .Although this book was rearranged by other writers after Xunzi ,scholars generally believe that " Encouraging learning","Evil nature", and other major chapters are basically written by XunZi.So, it is reasonable to study Xunzi's thoughts by centering the concrete chapters of"Xunzi". In view of the consideration mentioned above,I try to discuss Xunzi's learning thoughts centering on "Encouraging learning" chapter in this article. This article try to analyze Xunzi's learning thoughts systematically."Encouraging learning", the first chapter of "Xunzi" is aimed at Learning,which is the intrinsic clue of Xunzi's thoughts. In this article, I attempt to discuss Learning thought on the basis of "Encouraging learning" chapter and try to master his thought from the angle of the history of Confucian thoughts in Pre-Qin. On the one hand ,I compare Xunzi"s Learning thought with that of Confucius, and Mencius ; On the other hand, I take "Encouraging learning" as the center relating to Xunzi's other thoughts to inquire about the necessity, possibility, content, as well as the purpose of"Learning", to try to master Xunzi's Learning thought comprehensively and truly. This article is divided into four parts: In the first part, according to the notion"the nature of man is evil, his goodness is acquired training, there is the necessity of Learning .In addition, I analyze the possibility of Learning in the light of"Mind having the capability of understanding evidence". In the second part, by analyzing Learning's contents——ritual, I think that Xunzi was also the follower of Confucian tradition, namely, Xunzi regarded moral practice as the purpose of"Learning". At the same time, we can see that Xunzi attempted to realize"A man who is a sage inside,also should be a king outside"through combining ritual and law", the external standard ,with implementing the ritual origined from learning intrinsicly. In the third part, I elaborate the way of learning from two angles, one is enlightenment from the external teacher, the other is intrinsic self-accumulation .In the fourth part, I separately analyses the purpose of Learning in terms of individual and social. Finally, I give a summary of Xunzi's Learning thought and point out that Xunzi was the inheriter of Confuian in Pre-Qin., whose purpose was to implement moral practice through learning and uniting society to realize a harmony society finally.
