As the golden treasury of English history and culture, poetry exerts great influence on people's spiritual life from ancient time to contemporary age. Poetry, especially the metaphysical school poetry in English renaissance, is a most difficult job in the field of understanding. The metaphysical school poetry is well known for its terse and implicit language as well as its profound imagery. Therefore, the researchers should undertake the responsibility for the reproduction of the original form and spirit and the recreation of the original artistic conception, enabling readers to better understand and appreciate the essence of the metaphysical school poetry.Henry Vaughan, an important poet, though not as eminent as John Donne, George Herbert and others, really draws our attention in the field of ancient English poetry. Henry Vaughan himself never expounds his own writing principles and theories formally and almost not many ever make special study or research on him, though he plays an indispensable role in metaphysical poetry. In this thesis, the author intends to probe into Vaughan's potential principles of writing.Excluding the Introduction and the Conclusion, the whole thesis is divided into three chapters. The Introduction provides some information about the characteristics of Vaughan's works, recent studies on his works and the structure of the thesis. The Conclusion summarizes Vaughan's works, proposing the new research direction as well. Chapter One is about recycle of the God's seed. Chapter Two is about the journey to regeneration and Chapter Three is related to regeneration through marriage.
