A Brief Comment On Development Of Chinese Traditional Opera Film

To be started with the traditional opera film's development venation, its categorization and its conceptive boundary, this thesis systematically discussed the development of the form of traditional opera film which changed from the "Documentary Film on Opera Arts" to the "Artistic Film on Opera". Through illustrational analysis and comparative study, the thesis analyzed different applications of dramaturgic performance and film shooting technique in the traditional opera films, which illuminated the necessity of traditional opera film's categorization and the features in different types of opera film. In the conclusion part, the highlights of some classical traditional opera films were summarized in order to point out the future development trend of traditional opera film.The thesis contained five chapters. The first chapter gave a general introduction about the background and aim of research on traditional opera film. The second one focused on the definition and conceptive boundary of traditional opera film. Through combing the development venation of traditional opera film, the author pointed out its conceptive boundary and gave necessary genre-classification within its category to make its concept clearer. Different from "Actualite on Stage Performance of Opera" and "Story Film", the traditional opera film could be classified as "Documentary Film on Opera Arts" and "Artistic Film on Opera".The third chapter focused on the characteristic of every classified traditional opera film. In the formation process of traditional opera film, the changes on opera performance in it mainly included the following aspects: the guide to audience by the shot switch; the segmentation and reversion of arena space; the breaking of performance consistency; the new demand for performance by the film shot scheduling; the adaptation of screenplay; the adjustment of opera action performance in "Artistic Film on Opera" and opera performing means; re-positioning of scenery, art design, costumes, dressing and property; the adjustment of different kinds of opera in rhythm and so on.The fourth chapter analyzed different applications of film shooting technique in the traditional opera films, which mainly included subjective shot, close-up shot, applications of shot switch, the diversification of shot transition, the application of film special effects, a voice-over and lines with picture, and montage's use. At last, the principles of aesthetics in traditional opera film (correlation law, penetration law and weight law) were used for analyzing approach so as to further reveal its type characteristics.The last chapter summarized the highlights of some classical traditional opera films in order to provide some thoughts or proposals for the future development of this film type.
