Research On The Explanations Of Words In "Shangshu Jinguwen Zhushu"

"Shangshu Jinguwen Zhushu", whose author was Sun Xingyan, has been regarded as one of the best references to "Shangshu" by later scholars. This book quotes copiously from many sources, and discusses fully and accurately. This article examines the content of the explanations of words in "Shangshu Jinguwen Zhushu" from four aspects: interpretation of words, identification of words, phonetic notation and collation. Secondly, this article introduces three kinds of explaining methods: exploring the meaning of the words according to their sound; mutually proving by comparison; examining through actual inspection. And this article also classifies the straight explanations of words in the book, including mutual explanation, explanation of meaningfully related words in the definition of a word, an explanation for several words, progressive explanation. Then this article analyzes the features of the explanations of words in "Shangshu Jinguwen Zhushu". There are four features: first, the statements are based on accurate foundation; second, the materials and the quotation are vastly extensive; third, the explanation is well-knit; fourth, the explanations are based on the classics. In the end, this article points out the shortcomings of "Shangshu Jinguwen Zhushu".
