Multimedia-based Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) is the new trend in the development of language teaching. It can provide better learning environment in the process of learning a foreign language. Nowadays much attention is paid to the research and adoption of CALL in many countries. And there are still some worthwhile fields for us to explore, among which the research of listening and speaking is relatively insufficient in China. From the perspective of language acquisition listening is the comprehension process and speaking belongs to production. However in Chinese context, the learners listening and speaking proficiency are relatively unsatisfactory. Hence whether multimedia-based learning environment will improve learners'speaking and listening capacity is the focus of this thesis. The present study aims to investigate the effects of multimedia-based CALL on foreign language majors learning of listening and speaking from the perspective of motivation, comprehensible input and output so that we may have a better understanding of their learning situation. The major research method of this thesis is quantitative study. Three hypotheses are proposed. Then the data are collected from 337 language majors'self-reported questionnaires, who have taken the multimedia-based language course to practice listening and speaking for at least one semester. Then the data was processed and analyzed by SPSS 11.5. The result of investigation proves the above assumptions. First, multimedia-based learning environment strengthens the integrative motivation of the learners and arouses strong effort, which in turn contributes to low affective filter. What's more, the low affective filter in multimedia-based learning environment will facilitate comprehensible input. Besides, the quantity and quality of students'comprehensible input and output are dramatically enhanced in their practice of listening and speaking because of the favorite learning environment. Consequently, the author proposes a learner-centered model based on the above research and makes detail analysis of relationship among the variables.
