Feedback, as an prominant factor in classroom teaching and learning, has aroused more and more attention of teachers and researchers.Three kinds of functions of teacher feedback to students are explained in this thesis: the stimulating function, the examining function, and the adjusting function. Explanations of these functions are provided in this thesis. In a word, as a media of classroom interaction, feedback is of vital importance for the teacher to give students feedback. Some ways of teacher feedback in classroom have been suggested, including direct and indirect feedback, positive and negative feedback, prompt feedback and delayed feedback. It is believed that positive feedback can arouse the students'confidence and interest in learning. It does much better than negative feedback. But in some researchers'opinion, teachers'feedback is aimed to induce the students to have a proper self-assessment. So they need to give negative feedback sometimes. Some teachers tend to give students direct feedback There is no simple answer to the question when to give feedback. It is basically decided by the teacher's comprehension of language acquisition system. Prompt feedback of errors can avoid errors accumulation when learning. Conversly, some students need the teacher's delayed feedback in some situations. Research on feedback methods is not at all conclusive on the most effective method for classroom feedback. In short, the teacher should use every kind of feedback comprehensively according to the situation and the students.A reseach is conducted among teachers and students in GuangXi Normal University and Guilin University of Technology exclusively to find out what kind of feedback teachers frequently adopt and what kind of feedback teachers and students prefer. The results show it is more necessary to give students feedback in more students'opinion than that of teachers'. In the majority of teachers'practice, they have paid attention to feedback to students in class. Conversly, a few students consent to it. In the teachers'opinion, they should try their best to guide the students to answer questions right. The majority of students agree with it, too. And also lots of teachers think that they should give positive feedback after students'expression. But in the eyes of majority students, the teacher should praise them first, and then point out deficiency of the students'production. The majority students prefer teachers'prompt feedback. Most of the students think feedback is really useful as it can let them know their advantages and the points they need to promote. In all teachers'and the majority students'opinion, the teacher should give different feedback to different students. And as a conclusion of this paper, teacher feedback is really significant in fostering a student's determination for success in spite of difficulty and his courage to try, so teachers should find appropriate ways of feedback to different student to guarantee it most effective.
