Crusades are the world far-reaching impact on the history of medieval events, and the fourth Crusade is rather unique: The jehad of"Cross to Crescent"sets Byzantine which was also Christian country for the target,The results of this Crusade were the fall of Constantinopl -e and the establishment of"Latin Empire".The leitmotiv of dissertation is to do a comprehe- nsive assessment of the Fourth Crusade.Foreword introduces the significance of researching the Fourth Crusade, the document data on the Fourth Crusade and the status quo of domestic and foreign academic study on this issue.The first part of the dissertation's mainbody is on launching and preparation of the Four- th Crusade.On the background of the failure of the third Crusade,the pope called on the new Crusade by issuing encyclic.The preacher Fulk was active. Through the efforts of all sides, the Crusaders team was beginning to take shape.Envoys of Crusaders successfully signed the"Venice Treaty"with Venetians,and it sovled the problem of maritime instruments. The orig- inal crusaders'leader died so that the Marquis Boniface of Montferrat family was elected.The second part discusses the process of the Fourth Crusade.The Crusaders came to assembly in Venice,and Crusaders breached the contract, so Venice put forward the suggesti- on of attach Zara as offensive goals.Byzantine Prince request the Crusaders of helping restore the throne.Thus, Constantinople also became the target of this Crusade.At that time,the Crus- aders didn't publicly give up the original target—Egypt.The third part analyzes the results of the Fourth Crusade.Crusaders conquested Constant- inople,and established"Latin Empire"in the territory of Byzantine.Venice and Crusaders were satisfied with their booty, the original offensive military operations in Egypt ultimately not implemented.The conclusion of the dissertation is that:The Fourth Crusade is one new expedition on Levent which was schemed by ecclesiastic-secular feudal lord.Owing to complex factors, it came to end in conquering Byzantine and sacked Constantinople.It directly accelerated the decline of the Byzantine, exacerbated the contradictions between east and west in Christian world, and the Middle East political situation was more complicated.
