This thesis, by evaluating Zhou Zuoren's biased concept on belle-letter, subsequently by introducing and commenting on political essay consciousness appeared at the turning period of 20th century from the perspective of sublime, logic and emotion, tolls a tragic bell for the fate of the political essay in the transitional period of Chinese modern essay and beckons the return of sublime with a tone of condolence. The author claims political essay be the core style of Chinese traditional essay and hence one key starting point and growing point. Consequently, the thesis aims to deconstruct Zhou's concept of belle-letter and reconstruct a more systematic and comprehensive one beneficial to the development of modern essay by commenting political essay at the turning period of 20th century in virtue of two aesthetic concept"exquisite"and"sublime".
