The Study Of Phonetics On Local Dialect Of Tudi In Linwu County Hunan Province

Linwu county is located in the south frontier of Hunan province and north piedmont of the east part of Mt. Nanling, and it is also located on the south of Guiyang county, the southwest of Chen county, and the west of Yizhang county. It is next to Lianzhou county of Guangdong in the south, leans against Lanshan mountain in the west, and is connected with Jiahe county in the northwest. It is a place of bi-dialect where mandarin and local dialect are used in the same time. Local dialect is also named Xiangnan local dialect in the academia. The Xiangnan local dialect is very complicated in its linguistic appearance, and differs greatly with each other. There are many dialects in the need of being studied in the local dialects of Linwu. In this research, I've done comprehensive field investigation and grasped many first-hand materials. I delineate the phonology of Linwu dialects, and provide the homophonic syllabary, a comparing table of ancient and current phonetics, linking and tone modification, and other detailed philological materials. Being influenced by the geographic environment, immigration and language communication etc., the dialect in Tudi village of Linwu takes on a mixed philological appearance. The belongingness of its dialect is to be discussed in this thesis. This thesis is divided into five chapters as the following:Chapter One IntroductionThis chapter introduces the geography, history, population and language of Linwu county and Tudi village and it also introduces the research situation of Linwu dialects and the value of this thesis.Chapter Two The phonology of Tudi local dialectIn this chapter I discuss Tudi local dialect on phonological and intonation system, the cooperating law of phonology and intonation, phonological character. Chapter Three the phonetic diversification of Tudi local dialect in LinwuSumming up the difference of ancient and current phonetics of Tudi local dialect and the rules of linking and tone modification.Chapter Four the homophonic syllabary of Tudi local dialectChapter Five the belongingness of Tudi local dialect.In this chapter, I sum up the coherence character and its individual character between Tudi local dialect and other local dialects in Xiangnan, and make a study of its character and its belongingness.
